A deterministic calculation combines the reviewed ingredient database with published measures — Nutri-Score and NOVA for food, GHS/CLP hazard classes for products used on the body or around the home — into one 0–100 number. The same product data always produces the same score.

Accuracy is the whole product. Every one of these is a constraint on what we are allowed to publish.

A catalog seeded from public databases — USDA FoodData Central, Open Food Facts, and the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database — and scored ahead of time by the same algorithm the app runs.

Cited, not asserted

Score deductions come only from ingredients matched in our reviewed database, each entry citing a published authority assessment. AI-identified groupings are shown for information and never move the number.

Deterministic and versioned

The algorithm is versioned and the version is stamped on every score. Same product, same data, same number — a score is only displayed when it was computed by the current version.

No score we can't support

When too little of a label resolves to a reviewed classification, we publish no score at all — on the product page, in rankings, everywhere — rather than a guess. We say exactly how much of the label we recognised.

Paid by subscribers

We take no money from the brands we score: no sponsored placements, no paid corrections, no affiliate links anywhere.
